HEALTHCARE ASSOCIATION OF HAWAII SUPPLY AND DEMAND STUDY RESULTS
HONOLULU, HI, UNITED STATES - Sep 13, 2019 - Honolulu, HI (September 13, 2019) - A recently released workforce supply and demand study conducted by the Healthcare Association of Hawaii (HAH) reveals a need for phlebotomists in the state. The results show that 22% of the phlebotomist positions are unfilled. Additionally, 17% of both Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologists and Medical Laboratory Technicians positions are also unfilled.
The Hawaii Workforce Initiative non-physician, supply and demand study conducted by HAH membership and with participation from the educational community, included laboratory positions in its research. The HWI, the first of its kind in Hawaii, gathered data on 76 patient-facing professions. The goal of the study is to more closely align patient-facing workforce needs with the education and training programs available in the state.
HAHs Workforce Initiative, launched in 2018, is comprised of healthcare, education, and community leaders. While the demand for physicians is already well-documented in Hawaii - and across the country - there was a need for a deeper focus on the full, diverse spectrum of the patient facing workforce pipeline, said HAH President and CEO Hilton Raethel, MPH, MHA.
The five highest need professions of the 76 studied include phlebotomists, medical assistants, nurse aides, patient service representatives, and registered specialty nurses..
