What's the difference between monodisperse and polydisperse PEGs?

The molecular weight of polydisperse PEG is uncertain and distributed in a certain range. The polydispersion index (PDI) is commonly used to determine how narrow the molecular weight distribution is. Monodispersed PEG are pure compounds with precise PEG units and a single molecular weight. In contrast, polydispersed PEG is a polymer mixture with an average molecular weight, such as 5K, 10K, etc.
