Diagnostics are fundamental to equitable and quality health care but are underused and underfunded. Yet access to diagnostic testing remains poor and inequitable in many parts of the world. COVID-19 has underscored the significance of diagnostics and highlighted critical gaps, illuminating the unmet need, and instigating the call for urgent action to increase access among low-income populations. It has also made it apparent that strengthening health security across Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia will require long-term investments to fortify the diagnostics manufacturing ecosystem.
PATH and Accenture have recently collaborated to develop two resources that identify the market-shaping interventions needed to expand access to quality diagnostics in low-resourced settings and elevate the profiles of diagnostic companies with a manufacturing presence in LMICs.
